One of my favorite ways to incorporate Tarot with Astrology is to observe its energies during their seasons. As today marks the beginning of Aquarius season, there’s no better time than to talk about the energy of the Star. To take it a step further, we’ll also talk about how Aquarius’s sister sign, Leo, shows up through the Sun to give a beautifully complimentary energy to the season. Let’s get into it.
KEY 17, the Star, is a card of healing. What you see is the Water Bearer (an archetype of Aquarius) pouring water to the Earth in a gentle and caring way. The Water Bearer is unclothed, kneeling as a sign of humility and respect. This fits well into the Aquarian archetype (ruled by Uranus [modern] & Saturn [traditional]) because of the humanitarian and forward-thinking nature it possesses. There is a reverence for the Earth in the Star. It is a quiet, yet powerful display of healing and progress.
This time of healing and restoration comes after Key 16, the Tower, completely levels the structure built on rocky foundation by way of divine intervention. The level of healing Aquarian energy brings can only work at its fullest potential after old ways that no longer serve us are removed.
Behind the Water Bearer, you also see the Ibis (top right), and I am reminded of Tehuti, the Kemetic Deity of wisdom and knowledge. It is believed Tehuti was one of Jesus’s teachers many years ago. This brings a whole new dimension to the energy of the Star. It shows the level of wisdom the Seeker (you) obtains to get to this card. You build anew based on what you learn from past experiences. Your Spirit always knows exactly what you need when you need it. The Ibis is that reminder.
The water represents to consciousness and divine feminine energy. Water is fluid, and takes the shape of the vessels that contain it. It does not force, it isn’t boastful, it flows. So whereas in Key 16 we saw the rigid structure the Tower was built on, Key 17 brings consciousness, femininity, and new growth back to Mother Earth to build something more intentional while giving honor to the lands from which it stands on.
Now, let’s switch gears to the Sun. In Astrology, Leo is ruled by the Sun and is the sister sign to Aquarius. Don’t forget, the Sun is also a star. In Tarot, the Sun is the Seeker (you). The Sun is a card that denotes someone who is on full display and loves to be recognized for what they do. It is a childlike level of bliss and joy. Notice how the sunflowers are facing the Seeker (you) instead of the Sun. The spotlight is on you, and it is your time to shine when this card comes up for you.
Tie that in to the nature of the Sun and any solar deity you know. Ra (the Kemetic Sun deity) is considered one of the most powerful Kemetic deities and one of great wrath when provoked. But also, Ra LOVES to be seen and venerated. He is very generous to those who venerate him. He is the father to a few other Kemetic deities (such as Great Mother Sekhmet) and their temperaments are similar. Now tie in those principles to the actual Sun, our source of life. Without it, we all perish…quickly. Respect the Sun, it brings forth life. Treat it frivolously, you burn.
I say all this to say, the Sun knows exactly what/who it is. It is our source of vitality, strength, and power. Melanin is activated by it. Our third eye is strengthened by it. So collectively, when we remember just how powerful we are, we are able to come together for the good of one another and achieve whatever we pour into (all puns intended). Just like the Star. Where Leo energy is focused on the Seeker, Aquarian energy focuses on the collective. When these energies are properly balanced, you foster a collective of powerful stars that align for the forward progression of our society.
You know how they say your groups are only as strong as your weakest link? Well, when we see ourselves as THE SUN of our own reality, THE SUN of our own experiences, you have a prime opportunity to make a strong collective with a unique set of strengths that bring forth complimentary dymanics for the whole. Granted, egos are checked at the door.
So as we step forth into the forward-thinking and progressive energy of Aquarius season, always remember that what you bring to the table is valuable and it is needed. If we all thought the same, moved the same, looked the same, Mother Earth would be bored to pieces (lol). Embrace your individuality and what makes you who you are, then let the world see it. Not only does it heal society, it heals you.
