Saturn brought structure in the first decan. Jupiter brought expansion in the second. Now, Mars enters the chat as the warrior with a vision for Leo’s final hoorah. Let’s see what the energy has to say, here.

Terminology:

Decan: A 10-degree section of an astrological chart

Domicile: Place in the zodiac where the planet is ‘home’

Detriment: Opposing sign to the ruler (domicile); uncomfortable energy

Exaltation: where a planet functions at its strongest

Fall: opposing sign to the exaltation; weakest positioning

Femininity: passive, receptive, still energy

Masculinity: active, action-oriented energy

7 of Wands

A man with mismatch shoes stands in a defensive position with his wand on a ledge. 6 wands point to him.

We see the man in this card standing his ground as 6 wands reach towards him. Thoth Tarot names this card Valour, representing the tenacity and perseverance it takes when that fire within us starts to dwindle.

Look at the difference between the energy of the 6 and 7 of Wands, here. Where the 6 of Wands appeared to be ignited in this well balanced formation, the very next card interrupts that balance with the disruption caused by the poorly made wand in the middle. Like the mismatched shoes in the RWS interpretation, on the surface it seems like the Seeker was ill-prepared for the fight. But I’d say that’s the entire point: to stand your ground even when you feel you’re not fully ready.

Think of that creative idea that came to you seemingly out of nowhere. This card can be that reminder to ‘strike while the iron’s hot’. Spirit never asked you to create the perfect conditions nor to study and think yourself into a stupor. Sometimes, the lesson is in the obedience. To make it exist first, then perfect later.

Mars in Leo

The natural state of Mars is to sever and separate. That’s exactly what happens when Mars makes an appearance in this sign. In Leo, Mars comes to dominate with strength and courage. Like the mismatched shoes in the RWS and the crude wand in Crowley’s interpretation, Mars gives no f*%k’s about how pretty or put together things appear on the surface. Like the Mars-ruled Aries, this placement has a vision and mission to accomplish.

And even with good intention, too much of anything can be detrimental. Even though Mars has seemingly good intentions, it’s also a reminder to check our arrogance in these situations. The 7 of Wands can also come up for people who are ready for a fight even when they don’t fully see the bigger picture. We don’t see who is holding the 6 wands in front. We also don’t know if they’re being presented as a help or a threat. So it’s important to keep both of these interpretations in mind if this card shows up in a reading for you.

Final Thoughts

Leo season has taught some valuable lessons to us when it comes to our visibility, passion projects, and creative endeavors. Each decan has taken us through structure, expansion, and direction before we ground a bit during Virgo season. I hope this season has brought some clarity and insight on the Sun’s influence here as well as the light within. Hope this helps.
