The Leo full moon peaks on Sunday, February 1 2026 at 5:08pm ET. I’ve been curious as to what this energy means not just for me, but also for the collective. Over the past year, I have been more intentional with aligning with the seasons and the natural flow of things and it has served me well. As for this full moon, I feel Spirit has been providing me with little nuggets over the past 2-ish weeks. So, let’s see what we got.
Sun-ruling Leo is focused heavily on the essence of self, the ego, and our individuality. Leo energy is also loyal, generous, and affectionate towards others. Leo’s love romanticizing their lives and the things they’re passionate about. Play and pleasure is they thrive. Leo also governs the heart (stay with me, let me cook for a minute).
For some of us, we are generous to a fault. Not just with money but also with time, resources, and whatever holds value for us. Somewhere down the line, we were taught that generosity is the thing that determines whether or not we’re a good person. I was raised in a community where people would value those who gave their last, and shun those who don’t. For some, the ego kicks in and we take pride in how much we’re perceived as being able to do for others even when we don’t have our own self together. Sometimes it gets thrown in our face when we hear things like,
“After all I’ve done for you…” or “You should be grateful I did ___ for you…”
In the heart of the matter, I think of possible reasons why this is so prevalent in the Black community, particularly Black women. I reflect back to the enslaved Ancestors who never got the chance to explore the depths of themselves. Being brought to this land as property and the extent of their existence to be producing for the oppressor. Being brainwashed to experience joy and pleasure on their terms, neglecting the very essence of their indigenous being.

Present day, I feel Black women are experiencing this firsthand. The Black woman is one the most undervalued and unprotected. But as soon as shit hits the fan, we’re the first they call on. Not just to be on the front lines, but to explain. To break it down. To codify. To enable. They still see us as the “Mammy”, only valued and looked to when we provide for others and never properly compensated. Forgotten about or worse when we show up for ourselves instead of self-sacrificing for the sake of the same people who will replace us like a filter in a heartbeat.
Just like with what’s going on now. We’ve just now hit a year under this administration and people have been calling for Black folks to come back and ‘fix’ for months (that’s another post for another day).
Its noble to give, and this post is not meant to villainize those who do. We’re supposed to share and be in community with one another. But somewhere down the line, I feel we have not put enough emphasis on making sure we care for ourselves first. To stand first in our own ‘Sun’ energy and make sure WE are first cared for instead of only finding value in ourselves when we do for others. Being that Leo also rules over children, it’s the perfect time to reflect on these things with the youth so they can push the envelope even further.
You’ve heard it a million times, you can’t pour from an empty cup. I feel this is where it all comes full circle with this Leo full moon. This moon is illuminating to its fullest capacity over on it’s sister sign, the innovative and forward-thinking Aquarius. It’s a time where we release those old belief systems that tell us it’s wrong to pour into ourselves first. What things do you need to release in order to make more room for more play and pleasure? (Sorry sis, money is part of this matrix so don’t go telling folks I told you to quit that job if you don’t have a plan ok? lol)
We are part of a generation that gets to rewrite the rules to those that encourage forward progression through generations of Black women who are calling their power back. Gone are the days we continue giving and giving without preserving some for ourselves. We are just as worthy of love and support when we only have enough for ourselves, AND when we have some to spare. We get to thrive together, not just survive together. We get to embrace a new way of thinking about how we first care for self before we deplete ourselves for the sake of others.
