Aries in Tarot: Part One

The energy of the Pioneer and raw beginnings.

At the time I’m writing this, we are on the first Tuesday of Aries season/Spring. So, I’m feeling inspired to pay homage to the collective Martian energy of Tuesday as well as the three different archetypes of Aries represented in Tarot.

I find this to be the perfect time to start a new series that will align with each zodiacal season to help us learn and embody their energies better.

Let’s take a quick moment to discuss some terminology:

Decans – a ~ten day or 10-degree segment of each zodiac sign (see Tarot Decan Wheel below)

Wands – a suit of Tarot that represents the fire element and the fire zodiac signs (Aries/Leo/Sagittarius).

Seeker – The subject (person) in question. If I’m doing a reading for someone else, they’re the seeker. If it’s for you, you’re the seeker.

First Decan of Aries: [The Pioneer | Two of Wands]

This Mars-ruled decan Aries is the initiation, the conquest, and representation of the first few stages of raw beginnings. It also carries over some themes of reflection and passivity from Pisces season as we transition towards the spark of energy we see in this expression of Aries.

The Ace of Wands is where we lit the match to ignite our creative/fiery energy. That spark then reveals the path moving forward as we transition towards the Two of Wands. Note: We didn’t just get the spark and decided to run with it aimlessly. Our intuitive integration is steady (noted by the left hand on the wand and the still waters before the Seeker) and helps us to form a well-balanced plan of execution to move accordingly.

This is a card of vision and planning. A time to discover what is presented before you to help determine how it can best be used to call forth your dreams and desires. Just as Mufasa informs Simba at sunrise. Perfect segue to the Sun’s exaltation in Aries (Sun is also exalted in Aries). Whatever the Sun touches is at your fingertips.

The hat symbolizes a position of authority and a wealth of knowledge around whatever the seeker governs.
The red rose and white lily symbol in the divider/step represents a union of concealed knowledge and spiritual purity, respectively.
On top of that, the Seeker grounds themselves in that energy while holding the left wand firmly in place with the left hand, connecting them to their Divine femininity and intuition.
The globe shows expansion, and a world of infinite possiblities within grasp of the Seeker.
The mountains and gray skies show the presence of challenges and uncertainty surrounding the Seeker. We may not be able to see the entire picture, but we see enough to get started and to trust the path will be revealed as we journey forward.

The Two of Wands is an intentional approach to our creative endeavors, telling us to wield our spark wisely for longevity and reduce the risk of burnout.
