This last Virgo decan leaves us with this strong impression of the culmination of lessons we’ve learned from the first two decans, led by the Sun and Venus respectively.
First, we learned to establish and value sustainable routines around the work we do behind the scenes. Next, Venus asks us to look up and appreciate the long-term efforts we’ve employed to make our dreams a reality. Now, let’s see what Mercury’s rulership in the final Virgo decan has to say before we transition over to Libra.
Terminology:
Decan: A 10-degree section of an astrological chart
Domicile: Place in the zodiac where the planet is ‘home’
Detriment: Opposing sign to the ruler (domicile); uncomfortable energy
Exaltation: where a planet functions at its strongest
Fall: opposing sign to the exaltation; weakest positioning
Femininity: passive, receptive, still energy
Masculinity: active, action-oriented energy
Seeker: Self or the person being read for
Mercury in Virgo
Mercury is at home here in Virgo. A well-organized, luxury home might I add because Mercury’s energy is also exalted in this sign.
This placement is common amongst the deep thinkers, the editors, and the analysts. The details are the star of the show, here. The decision-making process is always to employ common sense and practicality. It’s one of the reasons Mercury in Virgo is so intentional with every aspect of its being. Everything must have a place and a purpose.
Like anything else, too much of anything can be detrimental. A constant, zoomed-in approach leaves this placement with this neurotic-type anxiousness that makes them feel like the job is never done. That strive towards perfection results in excessive worrying where the worst-case scenarios are often at the forefront of the mind. So whether this is a natal placement for you or a transit we’re experiencing, be mindful of the details but don’t let them consume you. Remember to zoom out every once in a while.
10 of Pentacles
We see the RWS version (left) depicting this long lineage of pedigree and status. A dynasty of sorts. The grapes and regalia on the clothing of the patriarch notes the generational wealth that has accumulated over a significant period of time.
Let’s take it a step deeper by observing Crowley’s depiction of the 10 of Pentacles in the Thoth Tarot Deck. Each glowing pentacle contains a symbol associated with the energy each of the sephiroths of the Tree of Life. I may do a complete breakdown of this Tree of Life in a later article, but for now, let’s tune into the pentacle at the very bottom which is also the largest on the card to dive deeper into it’s significance here.
The bottom-most pentacle we see here corresponds to the sephiroth labeled Malkhut on the Kabbalistic Tree of Life, and Geb on the Kemetic Tree of Life. Malkhut means “kingdom”, and is the place where divinity is received and ultimately birthed to the physical world.
In Kemeticism, Geb is the deity associated with existence, itself. Geb manifested from the primordial waters of chaos, known as Nut, through divine will. Shu, the Kemetic deity of air, is what helped separate Geb from Nut to form Earth and all its existence.
Through Virgo and the 10 of Pentacles, we see the abundance that materializes when energy has form. This is what that bottom sephiroth/pentacle teaches us. Through the 10 of Pentacles, we see the results of the mastery of the descension of energy from the higher realms and into the physical/material realm. It is where we transcend thinking in terms of opposites (ex: good/bad, masculine/feminine, etc.), and embody the final solidification of energy itself.
This isn’t just perceived wealth, it’s embodied wealth. Our ability to see the abundance through quality as much as quantity. We can appreciate fullness and wholeness outside of how much of it there is to go around.
This is what anchors us to humanity, itself. When you’re in community with people who share this frequency, you create the space where that energy can thrive. Cultivating this can shift generations into being equipped with the tools needed to continue this lineage forward for years to come.
Final Thoughts
Virgo season provided valuable context to the phrase, “as above, so below.” Our ability to digest energy and information into something useful is key to thriving in all aspects of life. Any time there is a shift in seasons within yourself, dial in to your Mercurial nature to observe what’s in front of you and digest only what’s needed to secure your foundation as you build anew.
