Taurus in Tarot: Part Three

Taurus season taught us lessons on alignment with the whole (mind, body, Spirit) self as well as charity and generosity. But what do you do when you’ve done everything ‘right’, yielded bountiful fruit, and it still feels like it isn’t enough? During this last decan of Taurus, we incorporate those final lessons under Saturn’s domain with the Seven of Pentacles.

The Seven of Pentacles

In the previous decan we focused on Venus’s lessons of measured charity and generosity towards others. But when those scales tip in favor of the external, our lens reflects that same energy back to us and our sense of self gets lost in our ability to sustain that posture. Even when that isn’t always feasible, which transitions seamlessly into the lessons of this decan’s tarot card.

In the Seven of Pentacles we see a luscious, healthy grape vine (grapes = abundance) filled with pentacles and one rests at the feet. The Seeker leans on his garden hoe as he looks on to what he’s grown with a sense of longing, loneliness, and discontent.

Think of the amount of care, time, and effort it takes to grow…well, anything. Part of the process is understanding the conditions. The soil, the seeds, the depth at which the seeds are planted, watering, pruning, pest control, and so on. When we put that much time and attention into our vision, there may be times we find ourselves lost in the weeds and lose sight of the bigger picture.

One (of many) of the greatest lies we’ve been taught is lack. As a result, we tailor our vision to arbitrary ceilings and limitations. Venus does not subscribe to this, rather, she asks us to be clear on the place materials have in our self-worth.

Saturn’s Influence

This is where Saturn’s influence comes in. On one hand, the grape vine yielded a plentiful return for the Seeker. On the other, the harvest leaves much to be desired. Somewhere down the line, the vision became more about the work and the fruit lost its value.

Saturn reinforces the Taurean values represented here; materialism, personal behavior, and the values we uphold. This requires us to be clear on our sense of self-worth and how the material world plays into it. If this card is significant to you, this is a checkpoint to get your head out of the clouds and embrace the practical.

How much of your self-worth is tied to the tangible? Saturn isn’t here to judge us for having nice things or making lots of money. It’s here to remind us that those things aren’t what make us who we are.

Final Thoughts:

The thing I love most about the progression of the Taurus decans is how intentional it all feels. First, our assignment was on defining self by way of our values and belief systems. From that space, we share our contributions from the heart and not our ego. Last, we established clear boundaries around our sense of self and what we make of it. If we ever feel disconnected from the work and its fruit, it may be time to check in with yourself on why it all mattered to you in the first place.

Taurus teaches us about the container, being mindful of what it holds and how it serves us (more on this during Virgo and Capricorn season). It is the grounded foundation we’ll continue building on as the astrological year progresses.

Hope this helps!
