The season of femininity, possessions, esoteric wisdom, and values.

I sat with this information I’m about to share with you for a bit and let’s me say this…proceed with care. A lot of Venusian wisdom, especially with Taurus, has the keys to unlock higher levels of consciousness by design. So, I want you to really check in with yourself before continuing in this series over the next few weeks and read with an open mind. 

First off, look at her. Isn’t she stunning?!

Terminology:

Decan: A 10-degree section of an astrological chart

Domicile: Place in the zodiac where the planet is ‘home’

Detriment: Opposing sign to the ruler (domicile); uncomfortable energy

Exaltation: where a planet functions at its strongest

Fall: opposing sign to the exaltation; weakest positioning

Femininity: passive, receptive, still energy

Masculinity: active, action-oriented energy

This is the Tarot deck I’ve used for many years.

Venus Symbolism

Venus is the planet we associate with femininity, love, romance/eroticism, money, possessions, values, luxury, and sensuality, to name a few.

It is also referred to as the ‘morning’ and ‘evening’ star. Being that Venus is so close to Earth, it’s the brightest and most visible planet in the sky from dawn to dusk. 

Venus is HUGE on rest and receptivity. When we meditate, we still the mind and the body as much as possible to receive the wisdom from within. Venus leans on internal connections to our Spirit to expand our consciousness, which leads me to the first card of the day, The Empress.

The Empress.

The Empress (ruled by Venus) is a card of fertility, femininity, and embodiment. The relaxed nature of the card speaks to how we approach the wisdom of Venus. Contrary to the action-oriented Emperor, the Empress asks us to be the vessel of stillness and receptivity so we can flourish like the landscape around her. The wheat ‘field’ she’s surrounded in corresponds to themes of abundance, as it is plentiful and full of life as is all of nature she’s surrounded by. This card also represents embodiment, itself. The act of settling the secret knowledge of The High Priestess (Key II, directly before the Empress) into our way of being. 

The white gown she wears symbolizes purity while the pomegranates (love, beauty, enticement) are a direct link to the Divine Feminine. The blood-red color of pomegranates can be linked as an ancient remedy for menstruation issues. and This fruit is also favored amongst female deities like Persephone, Goddess of the underworld.

The Empress teaches us to ‘be’, instead of ‘do’ (masculinity). Keep that in mind as we transition over to the Taurus-ruled Hierophant.

Taurus is the expression of Venus that directly relates to embodiment, whereas Libra focuses more on those interpersonal relationships that connect us to others. I find this interesting because it feels like Venus emphasizes a balance of first, integrating all versions (physical, mental, spiritual, etc.) of self and thenconnecting with others once we’ve made that link.

The Hierophant

The Hierophant is a card of traditions. In much older decks, the Hierophant was traditionally known as the Pope. Think of the actual position our actual Pope has. He’s regarded as the leader of the Catholic Church. The one who receives wisdom from God in the way Venus calls for us to do for ourselves. Then, utilize that energy as sacred the way the Hierophant is displayed, here. 

The Hierophant sits on an elevated throne with a symbol of keys, crossed in a manner like it’s blocking you from what it contains, which is the wisdom the Hierophant wields. The Hierophant’s wisdom isn’t for everyone, as he’s positioned between two pillars representing written law (the right pillar) and liberty, or free will. (the left pillar).

Some also link the two pillars to Hermes (messenger god, protector of herds) and Solomon (prophetic King of Israel). This speaks to the spiritual aspect through Hermes as well as the physical (Solomon).

The Tarot of the Bohemians notes the Pope in Key 5 as an ‘Initiate of Mysteries of Isis”. Isis (Kemetic name: Aset/Auset) is the deity revered in Ancient Kemet as the Great Mother who governs heka (magic). 

The Hierophant, like the Pope, is like the key itself that unlocks the mysteries of the esoterics first for himself, then only to those who are granted access to those secrets, like the two men in front of the Hierophant. The rose and lily symbolism shows unity between the masculine and feminine, which is where the Hierophant meets us.

Lastly, let’s hop over to the first decan of Taurus and talk about the mercurial energy of the Five of Pentacles.

The first decan of Taurus is ruled by Mercury, the planet of communication, and is represented by the Five of Pentacles.

The overall energy of this card is one of struggles, financial difficulties, physical illness. Following the Four of Pentacles’ where we see the consequences of allowing the material world obscure your connection with your whole (physical, mental, spiritual) self, the Five of Pentacles shows the manifestation of that energy: cold, dark, aurduous journeys. 

Take a look at the five pentacles of the card. They are arranged like the top half of the Kaballah Tree of Life. For deeper info on this, follow the link below the image.

The top half of the tree is where the material and spiritual aspects of self meet as we continue up to elements of Spirit alone. This resonates heavily with the Taurean expression of Venus because its where the unity of the whole self is observed. 

The light in the background leads me to Venus being considered the “morning star.” Venus is brightest ‘star’ we see during daylight, and it ‘sets’ at night with the Sun, where it’s no longer visible. In the Five of Pentacles, it’s dark and the light is still bright. 

In the Bible, we have mention of the ‘morning star’ in Isaiah 14:12 and also, Revelation 2 where Jesus is addressing the church in Thyatira (translation:“female butcher, she who rages madly.”) It is the fourth of seven (heart chakra connection?) churches addressed by Jesus and the only place in Revelations where He is referred to as ‘the Son of God.’

In verse 28, He says He will give the ‘morning star’ to those who follow His will to the end. (Refer back to Isaiah for more info on who the Bible refers to as ‘morning star’ or ‘son of the dawn’).

He is also said to have eyes like blazing fire and feet like burnished bronze. Well, if you remember, Aries is the first sign of the zodiac and a fire sign that rules the eyes. Feet (Pisces) and bronze (made of copper [Venus] and tin [Jupiter]) pay homage to Pisces by way of Jupiter (its domicile) and Venus (its exaltation). So, its plausible to infer that Christ (consciousness) is whole and complete energy that rewards us with Venusian, Divine femininity upon our embodied consciousness. 

The mercurial influence here reminds me of the healing energy of Virgo (Mercury is exalted in Virgo), as well as the intellectual side of Gemini (Mercury rules both Gemini and Virgo), the masculine energy of mental intelligence and scholarship. So, just like the top half of the Kaballah, we see the light of Venus illuminating the significance of embodying the whole self as we continue in our journeys…and the consequences for when we don’t (famine, illness, financial loss, etc.). Speaks a lot to the current times.

Final Thoughts.

LOTS of great information, here. I thought about breaking it up but I think it’s great inormation to digest over the course of the season. Taurus season is the time to understand embodiment as the key to living in alignment with our highest good. When all parts of us come into agreement, roads open for us.
